Pikmin 3 is a puzzle game developed by Shigeru Miyamoto and published by Nintendo. The game was released in 2009 for the Wii U console and is available in both a standard version and a premium version.
The standard version of Pikmin 3 consists of 50 levels and 5 modes. The first mode is called Story, in which the player takes control of three explorers and a legion of adorable Pikmin in a fight for survival. The player is tasked with helping the explorers recover their home planet by solving puzzles, battle dangerous predators, and recover food needed to save the explorers' depleted home planet.
The first explorer is a female character named Nia. She is a plant-like creature who is able to split into two different forms: a small and a large version. The large version is much more powerful than the small version.
The second explorer is a male character named Jay. He is a dog-like creature who is able to sniff out food and is able to carry objects in the air.
The third explorer is a female character named Amy. She is a bird-like creature who is able to fly and who is able to carry objects in the air.
The game includes three different environments: the alien-safari environment, the Ice Land, and the mysterious Dark Land.
